I did not switch off my lights at home. We don’t turn on any unnecessary lights on normal days. Already our electricity bill is high, we know better to not waste energy. If you’re wondering why I sound unsupportive, this is because my home houses a hospital room.

What did you do during earth hour besides switching off your lights?

I did not switch off my lights at home. We don’t turn on any unnecessary lights on normal days. Already our electricity bill is high, we know better to not waste energy. If you’re wondering why I sound unsupportive, this is because my home houses a hospital room.

When you have sick people at home, do you think you are in the mood to celebrate whatever day that has nothing to do with your home and family? Do you think you can switch off the air-conditioning and make sick people feel better? The answer is no.

Maybe I will be able to celebrate more and do more for myself when I am no longer tied to this home. Meanwhile, I am happy as long as I get to steal some hours to be away from home.

Last Saturday, the bf took me out for dinner after his short assignment at some camera events in town. As usual, he did not make any plan to take me anywhere. We always end up rushing to any tom, dick and harry eateries nearby because he is so hungry and drives like a maniac. I am very unhappy about this. I can only keep my silence and remind him to keep his eyes on the road.

Anyway, we ended up in a Hong Kong style kopitiam in SS2. Initially he suggested the one located in a building but I protested. We have been there before and the food sucks. I told him we will go to this royalty place but he said I told him I don’t want to go there before.

Oh yeah? Since when he can remember what I’ve said before or what he had told me before?

Thank goodness dinner was pallatable. We were there until way past 8.30pm and the place was brightly lit. Gone was my candle lit dinner.

After dinner I suggested we take a drive to around my work place to check if they switched off the lights. We drove a bit in KL city before going home.

I have read, heard and seen enough Earth Hour thing on the media. It is a total waste of money. If you think participating in it is cool, then you are saying it is OK for people to treat you like a dumb dumb. They tell you this is an awareness program. So that means you have no awareness of what energy and environment conservation is all about before this.

Please don’t treat us like dumb dumb ok? We are not kindergarten kids ok? Even kids know they must throw rubbish in the correct bin, turn off the tap when they’re not using it, switch off the lights when they leave the room etc.

If they want to promote something good, make it something challenging. What about making all supermarkets to stop using plastic bags for a month? Declare a car free day? Nope… these people are too scared to take up this kind of tough challenge. Making people switch off lights is much easier.

Do not call yourself a earth lover just because you switch off the lights for an hour. When the lights are on again, you continue your daily practice of turning on your air-conditioning 24 hours a day, leave your notebook or PC on when you’re not using them, use plastic bags, chemical detergents etc.

Sorry but your campaign failed to convince me your sincerity to do something good for the environment. I believe in doing my own part in my small little way.
