True enough it didn’t rain. There was a bit of jam on the road but it was not serious. I got to the library before it closes. After that I got Bak Kut Teh and shared dinner with my bf.

When I got home, it was later than usual. I had to water all the plants around the house and put the laundry to wash. I also realised I left a book in the living room. That means I have to go to the library again.

Minor stuff, no harm. I guess my LOA thing worked out… for most of it, I am grateful and happy.

I don’t have time to drop by after work since it is always jam and I hate the idea of rushing like a mad woman before their closing time at 7pm. Since my mom goes quite often during day, I get her to help me sometimes. Without the access to the catalogue, I don’t get to read as much as I like.

When I go there on Sunday morning, I’ll have to waste time browsing from aisle to aisle. The online catalogue allows me to note down the call number then I can just go straight to the shelf and pick up a book.

Everyone has to be prepared for losing one’s job at any time. No job is going to stay forever. We get sick of doing the same job day in day out. So it is very important to have a right mindset on how we are able to keep ourselves afloat in any situation.

Many people blame the lack of opportunities when they are unable to secure a job. How many of them actually try by putting in their 100%? Opportunities can be created. Are they able to adapt themselves to the situation? Most people will think that they are too good for certain jobs, so they would rather laze around and be dependent on someone else.

Personally, if I am not sick and does not have physical disability, I will be very ashamed to be dependent on anyone. Self-pity is not going to help at all. Why not use this opportunity to learn something new? Or re-evaluate one’s business practice? If one chooses to stay forever at one place, all things surrounding the person will not move forward.

So the life that person is hoping to achieve will be further and further away because the universe had moved. All things are interconnect in the universe.

How many people actually choose to do something about it? When you need to survive, you will do anything for yourself and the people you love. If you do not have this notion, you have wasted your life for nothing.

Reading is a good way to keep ourselves updated. I would suggest them to read “The Law of Attraction” and learn from it.

Next, they should also read “How Starbucks Saved My Life”. I will not hesitate to go work in a Starbucks if I lost my job while I seek other opportunities. Maybe I will stay in Starbuck forever. Who knows?

The thing is to be positive and not wallow oneself in self-pity, or blame others for lack of opportunities. Get on your own feet.

Last week, I finished reading the book “How Starbucks Saved My Life: A Son of Privilege Learns to Live Like Everyone Else” by Michael Gates Gill.

Book Description: In his fifties, Michael Gates Gill had it all: a mansion in the suburbs, a wife and loving children, a six-figure salary, and an Ivy League education. But in a few short years, he lost his job, got divorced, and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. With no money or health insurance, he was forced to get a job at Starbucks. Having gone from power lunches to scrubbing toilets, from being served to serving, Michael was a true fish out of water.

But fate brings an unexpected teacher into his life who opens his eyes to what living well really looks like. The two seem to have nothing in common: She is a young African American, the daughter of a drug addict; he is used to being the boss but reports to her now. For the first time in his life he experiences being a member of a minority trying hard to survive in a challenging new job. He learns the value of hard work and humility, as well as what it truly means to respect another person.

Behind the scenes at one of America’s most intriguing businesses, an inspiring friendship is born, a family begins to heal, and, thanks to his unlikely mentor, Michael Gill at last experiences a sense of self-worth and happiness he has never known before.

I feel like working in Starbucks after reading the book. The author had written in detail on the work culture of Starbucks where everyone is treated with respect. He is referring to Starbucks Coffee in U.S. Over here, our Starbucks are franchised to Bejaya Group of Companies. I am not sure how much of the original Starbucks work culture survived here.

Books are expensive in Malaysia. I stopped buying books but borrowed from the library instead. For those of you who is interested to purchase the book, you can get it from major bookstores. You can save some money by getting used book online. This can be found at Amazon.com. Click on the picture below for best deal.
