Sekinchan, Selangor
The place to go if you haven’t seen a real paddy field before. That’s me in December 2009. I was lucky to be there before all the fields are being harvested.
Harvesting is in June and December every year. Be sure to visit Site A because it’s a better organised plantation. There is pearl rice which are quite expensive. I was told that we can also get 10kg of local rice at about RM17 from one of the local distributor. Rice planted in Sekinchan is known as one of the best in the country. Funny we local people never get to eat our own rice because they are being export to the North.
The next trip I make there, I will be sure to find out where is that “shop” which sells local rice.
Other than rice fields, one can also sample local seafood at a couple of restaurants in the small town. Do not expect much though because it is more like home cooked, fishermen style in some small space. The two restaurants serve shark meat.
From the restaurants, one can take a short drive to the jetty. No sandy beach but the beach is covered with sea shells. One can find pretty decent sea shells there. What a rare site?! And it’s in Selangor!!
On the way back, we made a detour to Bukit Melawati. On weekend and public holidays cars are not allowed to drive up to the light house. We took a tram up. The hill is home to many black haired monkeys. Visitors can purchse beans or cucumbers to feed them. The sunset view from the look out point is beautiful.

For those who are not rushing home, there are plenty of seafood dinners available along the way back in Kuala Selangor. It will also be a good idea to see some fireflies. Just look out for signs that say “Kelip-kelip”.
This is a great itinery for a day trip.
